The Medical Mycology Training Network (MMTN) Conferences have always been a rich opportunity for clinicians and microbiologists to stay on top of their practice and to learn from renowned experts in the field of fungal infections. The AFWG convened the latest MMTN Conference in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on December 1–3, 2017. The conference was a resounding success, attracting more than 60 delegates from Vietnam and Malaysia.
Supported by a faculty of international mycology experts, the MMTN program included important local and regional topics, updates in epidemiology, and diagnostic and therapeutic updates in fungal diseases. Through the interactive workshops, laboratory personnel gained hands-on practice on diagnostic techniques, and clinicians discussed various cases to stimulate their minds and learn best practice.
The delegates agreed that the plenary sessions and workshops were highly educational and practical, particularly for the growth of their practice and research. They expressed interest in sharing information from the conference with their colleagues, and in attending future MMTNs.
With the success of another MMTN, the AFWG is helping to elevate the standards of medical mycology in Asia.
